Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust

Expanding Job Opportunities for Ironworkers and their Contractors

The off the Job accident program has been a God's send for our injured members and helps them from digging a financial hole. There is a process  of educating the members, following up with the paperwork to the Trust Fund, insuring the member is paid. This extra time is on behalf of the Business Manager but it is worth it.

Sincerely,
Michael L. Baker

IMPACT Announces Results of STSC® Examination

11/21/2014

WASHINGTON – Nov. 20, 2014 – The Iron Workers and Bennett Steel Inc., partnered in a pilot program for the Safety Trained Supervisor Construction® (STSC) Certification in Tulsa, Okla. The safety program was followed by an examination administered by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). This training will increase the number of safety leaders in the construction industry.

“This is a great training program with the end results validated by the STSC® examination, and an accomplishment toward reaching our goal of zero incidents,” said General President Walter Wise, Iron Workers.

“BCSP is pleased to announce that the STSC® certification tablet administration at Bennett Steel this month was quite successful. The onsite group administration allowed the company to provide testing to a sizable number of Iron Workers at one time. The Iron Workers were well prepared for the exam and I am happy to share that there was over a 96 percent pass rate at this location; these are fantastic results. Both Bennett Steel and the Iron Workers are applauded for supporting the efforts of this administration,” said BCSP CEO, Treasa M. Turnbeaugh, Ph.D., CSP, ASP, CET.

The STSC® training was sponsored by IMPACT, an organization that bring ironworkers and their contractors together to meet the growing demands of the construction industry.

STSC® provides a means for employers to verify safety and health knowledge of front-line supervisors, managers, and any other person with safety responsibilities. Safety Training Director, Rick Callor, CSP, STS, of URS in Boise, Idaho conducted an eight-hour training course, prior to the administration of the exam. BCSP, the leader in high quality credentialing for safety, health and environmental practitioners, proctored the two-hour exam. Training including the following:

·         implementation of safety programs at the worker level through health leadership roles

·         monitoring for job hazards

·         regulatory compliance

·         training employees in safety practices

·         performing safety record keeping tasks

·         coordinating corrections for safety problems within work groups, and

·         communicating with safety specialists or management

“Our training culture continues to grow. With the recent Construction Users Roundtable Workforce Development Award recognizing our Superintendent Training for Ironworkers, coupled with the STSC® initiative, Iron Workers are positioned to work effectively with contractors, thus, reducing and eliminating safety hazards,” said IMPACT Management Co-Chair and President of Ben Hur Construction Co., William Brown.

“We have heard from customers who are impressed with the STSC® Certification program. Our management team, including field supervisors are putting forth a visible effort to prevent injuries and incidents,” said Regional Advisory Board VI Management Co-Chair and President of Bennett Steel, Inc. David Bennett. “I am very proud to be part of this game-changing effort.”
